During the conversation, Poirier was asked about the situation involving the featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) and lightweight (70,3 kg) champions, the two categories in which he has competed throughout his career. While Ilia Topuria has been speaking publicly about the intention to confront Islam makhachev in search of a second belt, the Russian also shares the long-standing desire to change weight.

For the American, both are skilled enough to be successful in possible weight class changes. Regarding a duel between the two, he mentioned the size difference, but praised Topuria's heavy hands.

PUBLICITY:

“There are still guys at featherweight for Topuria to fight. I’ve never seen him in person, but Islam is a pretty big guy and I think he would be a lot bigger than Topuria. Still, Topuria is a killer and I think he can knock out anyone between 66 and 77 pounds,” concluded Poirier, who said he believes Makhachev will be successful at welterweight (up to 77,1 pounds).
