Although I have the desire toand move up a category and face Alex Poatan, Dricus Du Plessis has other plans before seeking his second belt. The South African, who won Sean Strickland No. UFC 312, last Saturday (8), wants to defeat Khamzat Shimaev and enter the race for GOAT status at middleweight (up to 83,9 kg).

In a press conference after his victory, Du Plessis made it clear that his next target is Chimaev. In addition, the champion highlighted that his goal is to consolidate his legacy as the greatest fighter in the history of the division.
“Khamzat is next. Khamzat is next. I want to make sure that this belt, the middleweight title, leaves no doubt that I am the GOAT of the middleweight division,” Du Plessis revealed.
Du Plessis rules out Poatan for now and targets Chimaev
Despite having challenged Alex Poatán for a light heavyweight fight (up to 93 kg), Dricus Du Plessis stated that he is in no rush to face the Brazilian. The champion made it clear that his priority is to defend his middleweight title and face Khamzat Shimaev.
“I’m not rushing my next fight to be against Alex Pereira. No, no, no. I want Khamzat now. I think he deserves a beating,” concluded the middleweight champion.
Dricus Du Plessis debuted in the UFC in October 2020 and has since accumulated nine victories in the organization, four by knockout and two by submission. During his career in the Ultimate, the South African has achieved notable triumphs against former champions Robert whittaker, Israel adesanya and twice against Sean Strickland.
