The UFC middleweight (up to 83,9kg) Jared Cannonier has been a mainstay in the organization for nearly a decade. The American striker has fought in three weight classes and has a solid record of victories against MMA legends. Even as he enters the final years of his career, he is not taking a step back, as the UFC continues to place him in main event fights. Next Saturday (15), 'The Killa Gorilla' will face the Brazilian Gregory Robocop in the main fight of ufc vegas 102.

Jared Christopher Cannonier was born in Dallas, Texas. Before competing in professional MMA, he served in the U.S. Army, where he first experienced fighting during military combat training courses. He was discharged after testing positive for marijuana and worked in Alaska for the Federal Aviation Administration, providing maintenance services. Cannonier made his professional MMA debut in 2011.
Standing at 1,80'120,2" tall, Cannonier fights at middleweight, but started out in the UFC in the heavyweight division (up to 2015 lbs.). He made his debut in March 2016 against Shawn Jordan, losing by knockout in the first round. His first victory came more than a year later in his second fight for the organization, in April 17, when he defeated Cyril Asker by knockout in the first round. The American has a record of XNUMX wins and eight losses in his career. He has nine wins by knockout, three by submission and five by decision.
At 40 years old, Cannonier arrives at ufc vegas 102 as seventh in the organization's middleweight ranking.

Cannonier has eight professional MMA losses, all of which have come in the UFC. After his first loss in his debut, 'The Killa Gorilla' picked up two more wins as a light heavyweight (up to 93 lbs.) before losing a decision to the future champion Glover Teixeira. The American bounced back from that defeat by knocking out Nick Roehrick as part of 'The Ultimate Fighter Season 25 Finale'. After that, he suffered his first losing streak at the hands of the future champion Jan Blachowicz and the future two-time title contender Dominick reyes. The loss to Reyes forced Cannonier to move down to middleweight.
As a newcomer in his new division, Cannonier scored three emphatic knockout victories, including an injury-free victory over Anderson Silva and a knockout in his first main event appearance against the perennial middleweight contender Jack hermansson.

Cannonier's winning streak would be halted, literally and figuratively, by the former middleweight king Robert whittaker on the retirement card of Khabib Nurmagomedov No. UFC 254. The Australian broke the American's forearm with the first kick he threw, winning by unanimous decision after three rounds.
In his post-fight statement, Cannonier praised Whittaker and admitted: 'I will take my defeat with pride.'

After losing to Whittaker, Cannonier bounced back with two more wins against Kelvin Gastelum e Derek Brunson. He was rewarded with his first – and only – UFC title shot against the then-dominant champion Israel adesanya. 'The Last Stylebender' nudged Cannonier to a unanimous decision victory.

Following his loss to Adesanya, Cannonier returned to winning ways with a two-fight streak, including a hard-fought split decision over Sean Strickland. The two middleweights stood and traded blows for five full rounds; 56,7 percent of the 922 fans scored the fight for Strickland, according to MMA Decisions.
Cannonier fought against Nassourdine Imavov in the main event of UFC Louisville in June 2024. He lost via TKO in the fourth round. The consensus is that Cannonier vs. Imavov was an early stoppage, and Cannonier demanded a rematch.

Despite this, Cannonier fought again in 2024 against the rising challenger Caio Borralho. The Brazilian fighter massacred the American from start to finish, almost securing a knockout in the fifth round. 'The Killa Gorilla' lost by unanimous decision and now fights Robocop, another Brazilian, to break his two-fight losing streak.
