After a decade, Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold have a rematch confirmed in a new MMA organization

Gradually 'taking shape', the GFL announced this Thursday (13) the organization's first clashes, with their debut scheduled for April 2025. One of the clashes is a rematch between Chris Weidman e Luke Rockhold. The other fight involves the Brazilian Mauritius Shogun against the Cuban Yoel romero.

Weidman and Rockhold face off a decade later. When they first fought in 2015, 'The All American' was the undefeated UFC middleweight champion, running over Anderson Silva, Vitor belfort e Lyoto Machida. But it was fighter Rockhold who achieved a technical knockout in the fourth round to become the champion of the category at the time.

Both men have since expressed interest in redoing the fight. In fact, the UFC had scheduled the two to fight in an immediate rematch, but Weidman had to pull out. Rockhold ended up losing the title to Michael Bisping and the rematch never happened… until now. The GFL plans for the reunion between the two to be the organization’s first fight.

In March 2024, Weidman won Bruno Blindado by unanimous decision, marking his first win since 2020 before breaking his leg. But in December of last year, he lost to Erik Anders by knockout in the second round, in UFC 310. After the defeat, 'The All American' announced your retirement of the UFC, but days later surprised everyone when signing with GFL.

While Luke Rockhold Although he has actively competed in other combat sports, we haven't seen him in MMA since his loss to Paulo Costa in 2022. He has only fought once since 2019, but he is returning with the GFL and will look to take on his longtime rival.

The GFL also announced the light heavyweight (up to 93kg.) fightYoel romero e Mauricio Shogun, who was retired. The last time the Brazilian fought was in January 2023, when he was stopped by Ihor Potiéria in Brazil, at UFC 283. He stepped away from the sport after his third consecutive loss, but is returning to fight under the new organization.

At 47, Romero still looks incredible. He last fought in MMA last February, when he defeated Thiago Santos on the Bellator vs. PFL card. He won the fight against Santos. The Cuban has won three of his last four fights.
