During your stay in Australia, Alex Poatán had an emotional moment. Just six months after the welterweight champion (up to 93kg) shaved the head of a young cancer patient, the Brazilian found him cured. The UFC star posted a video and took the opportunity to make a positive speech based on the story of the Australian fan.

“Guys, I’m here with Ashton. I don’t know if you remember him. Almost a year ago, more or less, I came here to Australia and… if you don’t remember, I’ll show you the video of me cutting his hair. It was at a cancer institute here in Australia. It was a very emotional, very difficult time for me… I cried, I got emotional there. And seeing this guy’s recovery, old man… He told me he was training Muay Thai and had to stop because of cancer, but he went there, fought cancer, beat cancer and here he is! After months of treatment and now cancer-free for three months. It’s a huge achievement! Call it or not? This one is to inspire everyone! That’s what fighting is all about!”, said Poatan in a video posted on social media. (see video below)
In June 2024, Alex Pereira shaved the head of a young fan battling cancer. That same kid is now cancer-free:
“He fought against cancer, he beat cancer after a hard fight and treatments…that is what you call fighting”

Remember the story
Alex Poatán starred a touching moment in June last year during a visit to The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Aiming to bring joy to children undergoing cancer treatment, the champion was deeply moved when he met Ashton Ilan Prachan.

The meeting with the boy, who trained Muay Thai and is a big Poatan fan, was marked by an unusual request: the young man wanted the champion to shave his head. Touched by the situation, the Brazilian did not hesitate to comply with the request, moved to tears.
“It reminded me of my children, who are always with me. It's hard to hold back the tears. I’m left speechless”, revealed Alex, his voice choked with emotion.
“We have moments of joy and sadness. This moment was very difficult for me. I visited the cancer hospital and this boy was training muay-thai, but was prevented from continuing due to cancer.”
