Heading towards his fourth title defense in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg), Alex Poatán commented on his preparation for the duel against Magomed Ankalayev, which will be on March 8th, at UFC 313. Despite traveling and carrying out extra commitments, the Brazilian assured that he is taking the training seriously and explained the only difference that the Russian brings to combat.
“I’m training, honestly, as if I were against any other guy. I think the only thing that changes is that he’s left-handed, but that won’t make any difference,” Poatan assured during an interview with Mark Bouris.

When asked about a possible problem in dealing with Ankalaev's grappling, Alex downplayed his fears and stated that he was ready for any challenge in the octagon.
“I’ve been training jiu-jitsu and grappling for a while now, and I’m doing really well and learning. I’m a dedicated guy, and I think my progress is really good. I’m really happy with that, and it’s going to be a great fight,” he concluded.
