MMA veteran, Jan Blachowicz already had his time as a prospect in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg). At a great moment in his career when Jon Jones was still the champion of the category, the Polish revealed a false promise from 'Bones', in which he guaranteed him, on two occasions, a duel for the division title. Despite the expectation, the athlete never had the opportunity to measure forces with the legend of the sport.
“Yeah, I was really disappointed when he went to heavyweight because he promised me he would fight me twice. The first time, I ran into him at the mall two weeks before my fight and he said, ‘If you win, you’re next.’ After I beat him, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to fight him.’ Corey anderson, I talked to him and he said I was next. And then he went to heavyweight. He ran away, you know. He ran away from me,” Blachowicz told 'FullSendMMA'.

At the time, Blachowicz had won three straight and ended up getting the opportunity to fight for the belt, but without Jones' presence after the American relinquished the title to move up to heavyweight. In the fight for the vacant throne, the Polish fighter faced Dominick reyes and knocked out his rival, becoming the new king of the category.
Since then Jon Jones never returned to his former division and is now the UFC heavyweight champion.
