“I don’t really know what to say. I think he’ll do a good job, he seems very passionate. He gave a powerful speech at the White House, raised important issues. This is democracy in action, so let’s see what people think,” the executive said in a post-election interview.UFC London.

McGregor justified the decision as opposition to the European Union's Migration Pact. The agreement, which must be implemented by June 2026, was described by the Irishman as a threat to the country's 'cultural identity'. On his social media, the fighter promised to put the issue to a popular referendum if elected, arguing that the final decision 'belongs to the people, not the government'.

Despite public support from figures such as Donald Trump — with whom McGregor met days before the announcement — the road to the election faces obstacles. To formalize his candidacy, the athlete needs the support of 20 parliamentarians or four local authorities, something unlikely given the rejection of part of the political class. Prime Minister Micheal Martin has already criticized the fighter's allegations about migration, classifying them as false and contrary to national values.
