Amidst discussions about the fight in UFC 313, Alex Poatán refuted accusations that he had used Vaseline during the fight against Magomed Ankalayev for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg). The Brazilian vehemently denied the accusations of using slippery substances after the Russian's coach, Sukhrab Magomedov, insinuated irregularities.

During an interview on 'The Ariel Helwani Show', Poatan categorically denied using any substance and accused the coach of making excuses for not being able to take him down.
“I didn’t put anything in my body at all. It seems like the coach is making excuses because he prepared the athlete to take me down, but all 12 attempts failed,” Poatan replied.

The accusation came from Sukhrab Magomedov, the Russian fighter's coach, who stated in an interview with the Ushatayka channel on YouTube.
“When we pushed him against the fence, we felt something slippery, as if there was oil or cream. Magomed also mentioned a strange smell,” the trainer had said.
Magomed Ankalayev tried to take down Alex Poatán 12 times during the fight in UFC 313, but was unable to successfully perform any takedowns. The Russian, however, managed to win by unanimous decision and became the new champion. A rematch is reportedly being negotiated in the UFC.
