One of the revelations of Fighting Nerds, Carlos Prates felt the taste of his first defeat in the Ultimate this Saturday (26) after facing Ian Machado Garry in the main fight of UFC Kansas City. The two welterweight fighters (up to 77kg) fought a five-round battle, which ended with the Irishman winning by unanimous decision.

'Respect bro': Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates make promise after UFC Kansas City battle

It didn't take long for 'Pesadelo' to report his first setback in the UFC. Through the stories on his 'Instagram' account, Prates published a message to his fans.

“Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the fight and that wasn’t enough. Sorry family, I’ll come back stronger!” (see below)

Before his loss to Garry, Prates had won four of his four UFC fights, all by knockout. The Brazilian nearly turned the tables in the final round with a ground-and-pound, but the Irishman managed to hold on until the end. As 'The Future' dominated the three first rounds, he left the octagon with his arms raised.

After the fight, Garry sought out Prates and the two they made a promise each other.

Prates' loss also marked the first for the Fighting Nerds, who were named the breakout team of 2024.
