training partner Carlos Prates and witness to all the preparation and seriousness worked for the UFC Kansas City, Caio Borralho opened the game and commented on the defeat suffered by the Nerd against Ian Machado Garry. In a sincere tone, one of the leaders of Fighting Nerds acknowledged the circumstances that may have gotten in the way, although he avoided any excuse for the defeat suffered.

“The strategy was perfect, Prates had an incredible week of training, the camp went well, Prates was injury-free. It was something we even talked about, everything was perfect, which we didn’t calculate, maybe – Carlos is a very irreverent guy, he doesn’t feel the pressure and stuff like that, but we didn’t calculate everything that happened, that mess that happened between his master and Diego Lima, all this stuff surrounding the fight brought in an extra person that Prates was missing from his calculations”, declared Caio on the Laerte Viana na Área channel.

As he continued speaking, the fighter highlighted how eager Prates was to knock out his rival and acknowledged his partner's possible haste during the fight.

“The strategy was to start the fight, hurt Ian little by little and then go for the knockout, because we know that Prates has knockout power. It turned out that the first punch that Prates threw in the fight was already a kill, he wanted the knockout from the beginning, so he ended up deviating from the strategy. He himself gave an interview to the UFC and said that it was his fault. But we said that it is everyone's fault (…) he knows that he rushed it a little too much.”

Finally, Borralho recalled that the trust factor ended up being detrimental when facing someone like Garry.

“There was an emotional aspect to this, which is exactly what I said, and there was another aspect that sometimes helps you a lot, but can also be a stumbling block in your side, which is confidence. Prates finished every round. Prates wasn’t there to win the fight, he was there to knock out the other person. So he finished every round saying he was going to knock out the other person. He was very confident about the knockout, and that took away his urgency to win the fight instead of just wanting to knock out the other person. The cold hard truth is that things affected him and he ended up rushing things a bit,” he concluded.
