Defeated by Ian Garry, Carlos Prates receives an unusual challenge for a 'clean' fight with a UFC veteran

After setback in Kansas City, Brazilian becomes target of Stephen Thompson, who wants a confrontation without ground and provokes rival's addiction

At 42, Stephen Thompson challenged Carlos Prates for a UFC fight, but with demands. In an interview with 'MMA Today', 'Wonderboy' declared that he wants to prove himself as the best welterweight (up to 77kg) striker against the Brazilian and joked about the possibility of sharing cigarettes after the fight, alluding to the potential opponent's addiction. The proposal comes after the Fighting Nerds fighter's defeat over Ian Gary No. UFC Kansas City last Saturday (26).

Known for his traditional karate and plastic movements, the American said he was 'tired of fighters who focus on grappling' and sees in Carlos Prates Prates the chance of a 'clean' duel, without thinking about the ground.

With just two fights remaining on his current contract with the promotion, Thompson is looking to reverse a losing streak: four losses in his last five appearances, including a knockout to Joaquin buckley in October 2024.
