Former UFC champion has been preparing for a possible rematch to regain the light heavyweight belt

Alex Poatán has innovated in preparation to face the rematch against Magomed Ankalayev. After appearing trying reconnect with his ancestral spirits in the Pataxó village in Brazil, the former UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) traveled to Japan to intensify his training.

Poatan and Ankalaev faced each other on March 8 at UFC 313. The Brazilian, who successfully defended his light heavyweight belt three times last year, was unable to repeat his good performance against the game created by the Dagestani fighter. After five intense rounds, the Russian ended up taking the title from Poatan by unanimous decision of the judges.

In Japan, Poatan has been focusing more on grappling, which is Ankalaev's specialty. He is training with a heavyweight team (up to 120,2 pounds), which includes fighters as tall as two meters.

But in addition to learning, the former UFC champion has also been teaching. The Brazilian striker posted a video on his Instagram stories where he appears teaching fighters how to defend themselves from takedowns. An interpreter was responsible for giving Poatan instructions in Japanese. (see below)
