The soap opera between the possible UFC heavyweight title unification clash (up to 120,2 kg) between the linear champion, Jon Jones, and the interim champion, Tom aspinall, may have an unfortunate outcome for fans. That's because the chances of 'Bones', the organization's undisputed GOAT, returning to the octagon may be over. Or rather: 'finished', as he himself said in a new video leaked on the internet.

Jones joined the UFC in 2008, in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg). He won the belt in 2011 against Mauricio Shogun and has since begun his reign in the division. He moved up to heavyweight in 2023, when he won the vacant belt by defeating Cyryl Gane by submission (guillotine) in UFC 285. 'Bones' made his first defense in the new category against Stipe Miocic No. UFC 309, in November last year, when he won by knockout.
Soon after defeating Miocic, Jones began receiving a series of advances from Aspinall for a heavyweight title unification fight. The organization's president, Dana White, guaranteed '100%' that the fight between the pair would take place in 2025, but so far there has been no agreement. After 17 years of service in the UFC, everyone knows that 'Bones' is very close to saying goodbye.
And perhaps that day has finally arrived. In a leaked video, Jones appears on a video call with his Russian friend Kamil Gadzhiev, who is an MMA promoter, stating that he is 'done' with fighting.
“You are still active, 10 years to go!” Gadzhiev exclaimed.
With a slightly 'yellow' smile, Jones responded to his longtime friend.
“No, I’m done. I’m done. I can’t wait to see you again, Kamil. You look great,” he said. (see below)

Jones blames UFC for withholding information
Before the Jones video leaked, the heavyweight champion responded on social media to fans' accusations that he was avoiding the fight against Aspinall. One fan said that 'Bones' should vacate the belt because he wouldn't accept the fight with the Brit. However, the GOAT blamed the UFC for fans' frustration by not revealing what their plans are yet.
“You guys are barking up the wrong tree, I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no idea why they haven’t shared them with you yet,” he wrote. (see below)

Will Jones really face Aspinall? Or is the UFC legend ready to hang up his gloves without a farewell fight?
The doubts and chapters of this soap opera only increase. And the impatience of the fans and Aspinall too. Recently, Jones' former rival, Anthony Smith, who retired last month, said keeping Tom waiting is part of a 'mind game' created by the 'Bones handler'.
