In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Moicano expressed his opinion on the dispute for the vacant lightweight belt. The Brazilian stated that Arman Tsarukyan deserved to be the number one contender and therefore should face Ilia Topuria. However, he acknowledges that Charles of the Bronx he is more charismatic and loved by the public, which, according to him, explains why his compatriot was chosen for the competition.

“I think Tsarukyan should fight Topuria because he should be the number one contender. But I think Charles Oliveira has much more charisma. I think people like Charles much more, so that’s why Charles is fighting for the belt,” said Moicano.

In addition to the main fight between Charles of the Bronx e Ilia Topuria, UFC 317 will feature other Brazilians in action. Alexandre pantoja defends his belt for the fourth time, Paulo borrachinha participates in a confrontation that could define his future in the organization, and the Renato Moicano faces Beneil Dariush — among other names that also represent Brazil at the event.
