Less than two weeks before the highly anticipated match between Charles of the Bronx e Ilia Topuria, the UFC has defined a 'plan B' in case of unforeseen events in the main fight of the UFC 317. Current number one in the lightweight rankings (up to 70,3kg), Arman Tsarukyan was chosen as the official reserve for the fight that takes place on June 28, closing the 'International Fight Week'. The information was confirmed by the fighter himself, in a comment on social media.
In practice, this means that Tsarukyan must be ready to go on the day of the event. The Armenian will also have to attend the official weigh-in and make the championship weight, so that he is able to replace Charles or Topuria in case of injury, scale failure or any other setback.

Interestingly, Arman Tsarukyan was scheduled to face the then champion Islam makhachev for the lightweight title in January, at UFC 311, but suffered an injury on the eve of the weigh-in. At the time, the duel did not have a defined reserve, but the Brazilian Renato Moicano, who was already scheduled for the card, replaced the Armenian and faced the Russian.
With Tsarukyan in reserve, Charles of the Bronx e Ilia Topuria face each other for the vacant lightweight belt in the main event of UFC 317, on June 28, in Las Vegas, United States. The event also features the flyweight title dispute (up to 56,7 kg), between Alexandre pantoja e Kai Kara France.
