Former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) and candidate for a place in the UFC Hall of Fame in the coming years, Dustin Poirier hung up his gloves after a defeat to Max Holloway , in the main event of UFC 318, last Saturday (19). With a career of 32 fights in the octagon marked by great battles, the American revealed, in a recent interview with the American Top Team, his academy, which rivals impressed him the most with their striking power.

Without hesitation, 'The Diamond' pointed to former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje as responsible for the most brutal blow he suffered in his career: the high kick in the BMF title fight at UFC 291 in 2023.

"I got stopped by strikes a few times. Gaethje's head kick was savage," he said.

Gaethje, however, was not the only name Poirier mentioned in the discussion. Although he came out on top in the trilogy against Conor McGregor , with two wins over his rival, 'The Diamond' made a point of highlighting the power demonstrated by the Irishman in their first encounter.
