The UFC officially confirmed, on Tuesday night (22), the rematch between Alex Poatán e Magomed Ankalayev for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg). The duel will be the main fight of the UFC 320, scheduled for October 4th, in Las Vegas.
The announcement comes after months of provocations between the protagonists and uncertainty about the officialization of the fight. Poatan and Ankalaev faced each other in UFC 313, in a balanced five-round fight, won by the Russian by the judges' decision.
Alex Poatan's career in the UFC light heavyweight division
After being dethroned by Israel adesanya in the middleweight division (up to 83,9 kg), Alex Poatán decided to move up to light heavyweight (up to 93kg) in search of his second UFC belt. In his debut in the new category, the Brazilian fought a tough battle against Jan Blachowicz and won by split decision.
Next, Poatan faced Jiri Prochazka for the vacant division title. Despite facing difficulties in the first round, the Brazilian knocked out the Czech in the second round and became champion.
The success continued. In the following fights, Poatan racked up knockouts over Jamahal hill, again Prochazka, and Khalil rountree, ending the year 2024 crowned as the best fighter of the season, alongside Ilia Topuria.
However, in March 2025, in a fight surrounded by expectations, Alex Poatán was surpassed by Magomed AnkalayevSince then, he and his fans have been waiting for a rematch.
UFC 320 will have another title fight
Besides Alex Poatán against Magomed Ankalayev, UFC 320 There will be another title fight on the fight card. The bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg), Merab Dvalishvili puts the title on the line against Cory Sandhagen.
The organization also announced a third fight in UFC 320. The former champion Jiri Prochazka faces Khalil rountree Jr. in the light heavyweight category.
