Walter Walker He firmly entered the debate about the future of Alex PoatánHe argued that the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) and current light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) should risk moving up to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg). Within that context, he admitted he would be willing to face his compatriot if the invitation arose.

The statement was given in an interview with the Laerte Viana channel on the MMA channel via YouTube, in which Walker said he believes Poatan has already "beaten everyone" in the light heavyweight division and that the move to the heavyweight category would make sense for the Brazilian's legacy and visibility.

“It doesn’t make sense for him to stay at 93 kg. The guy already has money, fame… why would he stay at light heavyweight, where there are only top-level fighters?” Walker stated in the video.

Alex Poatan's promotion would require preparation, but it would be worth it.

According to Valter, a fighter of Poatan's caliber would reign in the heavyweight division for much longer. However, Walker made it clear that moving up isn't an instantaneous process. According to the fighter, it requires building muscle, changing sparring routines, and adapting the body to the new division.

"If he started training for heavyweight, he would be ready in a year. It's not a two-month thing, it's a year, a year and a half," he explained.

Still, Walker's reasoning is pragmatic: more visibility, more money, and the chance to go down in history as a three-time champion, something that, in Valter's view, would justify the risk.

Walter Walker vs. Alex Poatan?

“I would fight him for free, just for the banter… If I win, I win everything. If I lose, I lose nothing. I'll fight for free. Just for the banter. Just for my picture next to his. He doesn't even need to pay me anything. I'll buy my own ticket,” he concluded, laughing, while commenting on the possibility.
