Rafael dos Anjos spared no praise for Charles of the Bronx when commenting the dominant victory of the compatriot. According to the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), the current 'BMF' title holder conducted the fight against Max Holloway with intelligence and discipline, and even cited one of the great icons of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in MMA as an example of a great performance after the fight held at UFC 326, this past Saturday (7), in Las Vegas.
In a video posted on his Instagram, the Niterói native highlighted 'Do Bronx's' strategic posture. The athlete stated that he was impressed by the tactical maturity shown by the Brazilian, who avoided unnecessary exchanges and knew how to take advantage of grappling moments to control his opponent. For the 41-year-old veteran, the 'Blamed Lion's' performance could even serve as a practical example of self-defense applied to MMA.
“I took some time out of my day to calmly watch and analyze this fight. I was very impressed with Charles's posture. He managed to land more strikes standing up, but without exposing himself. It was a very intelligent performance. It even looked like a self-defense lesson. If anyone wants to show how to apply self-defense in MMA, just show this Charles fight. He blocked the strikes, closed the distance, got into the clinch and took down. It was practically perfect,” he explained.

Dos Anjos also highlighted the high level of jiu-jitsu displayed by his compatriot during the fight and made a comparison with great moments of the gentle art within MMA. According to him, performances of this level are not frequently seen in the octagon.
In my opinion, since the time of Royce gracie "We hadn't seen a jiu-jitsu performance as well-executed as Charles' fight. It was beautiful to watch. He controlled positions, took the back several times, and dominated the fight. Holloway even surprised me at times defending the rear-naked choke, but Charles was always in control," he analyzed.

The former Ultimate lightweight champion also took the opportunity to comment on the criticism from some fans who expected a more striking-focused fight and defended the strategy adopted by Charles of the Bronx in the octagon.
“Sometimes the more casual fan just wants to see striking because it’s a fight for the BMF belt. But fighting is strategy. There’s no such thing as an ugly goal. Nobody goes to war wanting to get shot. Charles did exactly what he needed to do: he went in, fought five rounds, and came out practically without a scratch. That shows the level of his performance. You have to take your hat off to him,” he concluded.
