Despite the setback suffered against Arnold Allen in his last appearance in the most famous octagon on the planet, Melquizael Costa is far from experiencing a monotonous moment in his career. On vacation in Natal, the Para native revealed last Sunday (31) his decision to move to lightweight (up to 70,3 kg). As if that wasn't enough, he also caught the attention of fans and media by getting involved in a feud with Jean Silva . In this context, the Para native spoke about these and other issues in an exclusive interview with SUPER LUTAS.

After the tough defeat to the Englishman, the Paraense fighter went to social media to announce his desire to change weight classes. Despite the negative result, Melk made it clear that the transition to lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) is a long-standing desire, unrelated to the end of his six-fight winning streak.
“Even following very strict diets, I remained very heavy. Since the fight with (Andre) Fili, I was already thinking about moving up a weight class. I started vomiting bile. When I was going to fight the Mexican ( Christian Rodriguez ), I vomited in the hotel parking lot and was almost seen by the UFC nutritionist; the fight almost fell through. The fight with Dan Ige came up with 40 days' notice, and I accepted. I almost died. I fainted four times; it was a miracle to make weight. I won, and shortly after, I received the opportunity to fight Allen, and I couldn't refuse,” he stated, also making it clear that he never considered the possibility of pulling out of a fight.

The fighter also recently drew attention by engaging in an exchange of insults with another major Brazilian prospect: Jean Silva . The two met at LFA 234 in São Paulo, last Friday (29). According to Melk, the altercation made him realize a supposed contradiction in Lord's behavior.
“We always teased each other, and it was a healthy thing. But then he started to get too big for his britches, and it went to his head. For a while now, he's stopped responding to me on Instagram. He also started talking badly about Brazilians… He's incredibly stupid. He gave an interview saying we're on different levels, so I also talked about him and called him a bitch. But I thought everything was fine. This bastard came to confront me. I thought he was going to fight me right then and there when he took off his glasses, but he just said I shouldn't talk to him. He's not crazy, it's just a social media thing,” she stated.
next opponent

When asked about a name for his first opponent, the Dalmatian was honest in admitting he didn't have any specific name in mind. However, he emphasized having great admiration for veteran Michael Johnson , one of the most experienced names in the UFC's most populous division.
“In the lightweight division, I’ll only fight one guy, while in the featherweight division I fought two, me and my opponent. I didn’t have the physical capacity to participate in a press conference because I couldn’t speak. I’ve admired Michael Johnson for a long time, a lot of people talk about Dawson. And if I could choose any ranked fighter right away, I’d choose Mateusz Gamrot . He has a boring game, and I like fighting athletes of that profile,” he concluded.
