Alex Poatán lived through a terribly bitter night in UFC White House and failed to become the first triple champion in the history of the world's largest MMA company. Right at the start of the fight, Poatan surprised Gane with two dangerous high kicks. In turn, Gane relied on low kicks and jabs. At one point, Gane tried to take Poatan down, who defended the attempt. Gaining confidence in the striking exchanges, Gane startled Poatan with straight punches and crosses. Powerful, Gane punished Poatan with jabs, straights, and crosses, causing him to fall to the octagon floor. Realizing that Poatan was struggling and almost knocked out, Gane continued attacking with full force and punishing him. Disoriented, Poatan even showed bravery, but Gane finished the fight with his powerful punches, winning the interim heavyweight title.
