Kevin Vallejos believes he is one step away from surpassing Jean Silva , the man who defeated him in the 2023 Contender Series. Since then, the Argentinian has turned things around: he earned his UFC contract, entered the featherweight rankings (up to 65,7 kg), and is now scheduled to face Aljamain Sterling at UFC Qatar. In Vallejos' view, a victory over the former champion could put him in a privileged position to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the title.
In a post on 'X', Vallejos stated that a potential victory over Sterling would position him as the leading contender to face Volkanovski. The Argentinian highlighted that the Australian has already defeated big names from different generations of the division, but believes that he himself represents the new generation of featherweights and would be the next big challenge for the champion.
“After WE beat Sterling, we will be the only logical challenger to Volk. He has already beaten the best of the past and present — but WE are the future,” wrote Kevin Vallejos.

For the Argentinian, defeating the former champion would establish him as the future of the 66 kg category and bring him closer to a title fight against Volkanovski.
“We are 24 years old and, to solidify his legacy as the greatest featherweight of all time, he needs to beat the future of the 66 kg category. After Sterling, everyone will know that WE are the future,” concluded the Argentinian.
