Rafael dos Anjos still maintains an interest in a possible confrontation with Conor McGregor in the UFC octagon. After the Irishman announced his move up to the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) in 2016, the Brazilian, then champion of the category, came close to welcoming the star to the new division. However, an injury took away the Brazilian's opportunity to headline what could have been the most lucrative fight of his career.
In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', Rafael dos Anjos stated that he would be very happy if he had the opportunity to face Conor McGregor again . The Brazilian emphasized that he believes in God's plans and that, if circumstances lead them to meet again in the octagon, he will be willing to take on the long-awaited confrontation.
“That would be incredible. Who knows? God has a plan, and whatever He decides, if the stars align and God says it’s your time, that would be great. I would love that,” said Rafael dos Anjos.

The former lightweight champion, however, made it clear that he doesn't intend to sit still waiting for a possible fight against the Irishman. Dos Anjos explained that his life has moved on and cited Michael Chandler as an example, stressing that it wouldn't make sense to spend years away from fighting waiting for a duel that may never happen.
“It’s not about money. My life moved on. I’m not going to do what Michael Chandler did and sit around for two years waiting for a fight that never happens. It might never happen. Maybe he’ll get that fight, who knows? But I think, back in my day, if I had decided to wait and didn’t want to fight Eddie Alvarez, waiting for Conor, maybe it could have happened. But I just wanted to defend my belt and keep things moving forward,” concluded the former champion.
