Looking to regain the form that made him one of the world's top middleweights, Paulo Filho is the latest addition to the fifth edition of First Class Fight (FCF-5). The black belt will headline the card against Marco Antonio Pezão on October 23rd at the Mauro Pinheiro Gymnasium in São Paulo.
The former WEC middleweight champion will replace Glover Teixeira , who was previously scheduled for the final fight of the night but signed with the Canadian event MFC and will not be able to compete in Brazil.
With 20 fights in his career, Paulão has only one loss on his record, to Chael Sonnen at WEC-36 in October 2006. In his last fight, he faced Canadian Denis Kang at Impact FC in Australia, but the highly anticipated fight ended in a draw after a very close contest.
“We had this commitment to sponsors and the public to promote a great fight between the best in the country. It didn't work for Glover, who went to Canada and proved to be one of the greats, so we spared no effort to close with Paulão, one of the toughest guys in MMA”, said Roberto Godoi, creator and organizer of FCF.
