Anderson and Shogun party at UFC-97

Another night of a Brazilian show at Ultime. Anderson Silva, Mauricio Shogun e Luis “Banha” Cane led the Tupininqum party at UFC-97, which ended recently in Montreal, Canada. The only Brazilian defeat on the show was Vinicius Magalhães which was surpassed by Eliot-Marshall in the decision of the judges. In the main fight of the night, Anderson fared better in the duel between Brazilians and successfully defended his belt by going through Thales leites in the unanimous decision of the referees, establishing, in addition, a new record in Ultimate with nine consecutive victories in the Octagon.

Luiz Banha vs. Steve Cantwell.

The first Brazilian to enter the octagon on the main card, Luiz “Banha” Cane showed his efficient Muay Thai against the former WEC champion, Steve-Cantwell. With good combinations, the Gibi Thai athlete commanded the first round from start to finish, but in the second round, strong blows from the American athlete hit the Brazilian, who felt the strength of Cantwell's arm. But on the way back to the decisive round, Banha once again showed off his arsenal of blows and hurt his opponent's face, who ended up bleeding profusely from the nose. In the end, the Brazilian won with a unanimous decision from the judges.

Mauricio Shogun vs. Chuck Liddell

In one of the most anticipated fights of recent times, Mauricio Shogun e Chuck liddell did not disappoint the public present at the Canadian gym. After the debut defeat to Forrest griffin and a dull victory over Mark Coleman, Shogun showed why he arrived in Ultimate as the best light heavyweight in the world. In a busy fight, the UDL leader showed his arsenal of strikes to the American, with good punches, kicks and takedowns over Liddel. Just over four minutes into the fight, the Brazilian landed a direct hit on the Iceman's face that resulted in a knockdown. The punishment continued with ground and pounch, forcing the referee to stop the fight, declaring Shogun the winner by technical knockout.

Anderson Silva vs. Thales leites

In a warm fight, Anderson Silva successfully defended the UFC middleweight belt by defeating Thales leites in the unanimous decision of the jurors. The fight started with a lot of study and little exchange of blows, which led the audience to the inevitable boos, this tepid rhythm continued throughout the first round. In the second round, Thales achieved what he wanted from the beginning, he fell Anderson Silva and even passed the champion's guard, who used his good flexibility and wingspan to free himself from his opponent and return to the fight on his feet. From the third round onwards, the fight turned into a monologue. Anderson Silva using his boxing in a sequence of short punches and stomps on the knee, while, Thales leites, he attempted takedowns desperately.
