The saga surrounding Paulo Borrachinha 's next fight in the Ultimate has finally come to an end. In an announcement made on social media on Thursday night (21), the organization's president Dana White confirmed that the Brazilian will face former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) Robert Whittaker at UFC 298 , an event that takes place on February 17 in Anaheim, California, United States.
The duel against Robert Whittaker will mark Paulo Borrachinha 's return after more than a year away from the octagon. The Brazilian's last fight, currently ranked sixth in the middleweight division, took place in August 2022, when he defeated former champion Luke Rockhold by unanimous decision at UFC 278. With the victory, Borrachinha recovered from a losing streak against Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori.

On the other side, Robert Whittaker currently holds the third position in the division's ranking. The former champion, a New Zealander who became an Australian citizen, is coming off a technical knockout loss to Dricus Du Plessis , the next title challenger, in a fight held in July of last year at UFC 290.
Scheduled for February 17th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, UFC 298 features a main event fight for the featherweight title (up to 65,7 kg) between champion Alexander Volkanovski and challenger Ilia Topuria.
In addition to the duel between Paulo Borrachinha and Robert Whittaker , Dana White confirmed last Thursday that welterweights (up to 77,1 kg) Geoff Neal and Ian Garry will also face each other at the event, and not at UFC 299 , as previously announced.
