Former UFC representative and former Bellator champion, Gegard Mousasi, has started a public exchange of barbs with Derek Brunson . The veteran, recently signed to the PFL, accused his fellow fighter of rejecting a fight. The American, the target of the criticism, responded to the attacks.

“The PFL wants me to fight Derek Brunson as soon as possible. Derek refused once again. He said he doesn’t want to. It’s the third time he’s refused to fight me in recent years. The fans lose out. I hope the PFL can find a middleweight for me. I’m ready,” Mousasi wrote on his X profile , formerly Twitter.

Upon learning of Gegard's publication, the American did not leave his rival without a response. The athlete did not deny the proposal and justified the denial to the veteran.

“Stop it, Gegard Mousasi . Nobody is avoiding you. I’m enjoying the end of the year with my family. I already missed Thanksgiving. I’m not going to accept a fight that I can’t dedicate myself to training for,” he retorted.

An MMA professional for over 20 years, Mousasi competed in the UFC between 2013 and 2017, until his migration to Bellator. In the company chaired by Scott Coker, the veteran won the middleweight title on two occasions, being successful in three defenses.

With the PFL's acquisition of Bellator, Gegard awaits his chance to make his Bellator debut with the new company. Brunson, Gegard's target, debuted in the organization in November when he defeated Ray Cooper III.
