Sean Strickland 's dominant victory over Israel Adesanya doesn't seem to have convinced some fighters about the quality of the controversial middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg). In a statement to ESPN, current Ultimate commentator Daniel Cormier accused South African Dricus Du Plessis , and also Englishman Leon Edwards , of underestimating the current holder of the belt that once belonged to Anderson Silva.

“ Conor McGregor was the first person to win two belts, in 2016. That had never happened before. Since then, Amanda (Nunes), myself, and Henry Cejudo have done it. TJ Dillashaw tried, Alexander Volkanovski tried, ( Israel Adesanya ) tried, many people have tried. And I believe that now these guys feel that Sean Strickland is beatable. I talked to people close to Du Plessis, they believe he will have no difficulty getting past Sean Strickland . Like, they really believe he is so far ahead of Sean Strickland that he won't be competitive. I don't know how you can watch Dricus' last fight (against Adesanya) and think like that,” said Cormier.
