Colby Covington , former UFC welterweight (up to 77kg) title challenger , caused controversy by insulting Irishman Ian Garry and his wife, Brazilian Layla Anna-Lee.
In an interview with presenter Tucker Carlson, the American called the Irishman an “idiot” and his wife “despicable”, in addition to suggesting that she is still selling books to teach how to be a “WAG”, a term used to designate wives and girlfriends of famous athletes.

“There's this guy who's a huge idiot and I teased him about it. I only told the truth. He's an idiot and his wife is despicable. She is selling books promoting being a ‘WAG’. I won't let the world forget this. I’m going to bring this to the forefront and make sure everyone is talking about it and make it a joke for you,” Covington said in an interview with Tucker Carlson.
The American's provocation originated in a post on 'X', the social network that replaced Twitter, where some profiles suggested that Layla, 40, married Garry, 26, out of interest, as she is the author of a book called “How to be a WAG”.
