Former lightweight (up to 703 kg) title challenger Josh Thompson of the United States said he's not excited about the hype surrounding star Khamzat Chimaev . On his YouTube channel, the veteran stated that he hasn't yet become a fan of the Emirati fighter and subtly provoked him by saying he's seen several 'phenomena' like him emerge in MMA.

“I said this the last time I saw him fight: he still hasn’t impressed me. I wasn’t impressed by Khamzat Chimaev . Everyone’s like, ‘You’re dumb, you’re being a hater.’ I’m like, ‘No, I don’t care what you say.’ I’ve been in the fighting game for a very, very long time. Fighters come, fighters go. They explode onto the scene and guess what? Then they take a while hoping to get back on track, and some of them never get to shine and some are reborn later,” Thompson said.

Ranked number nine in the middleweight division, Chimaev debuted in the division last October and defeated Nigerian Kamaru Usman by majority decision. At 29 years old, Khamzat is undefeated in professional MMA with 14 consecutive wins, seven of them wearing the gloves of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
