UFC Vegas 90 protagonist spares no criticism and attacks Dricus Du Plessis' reign: 'He didn't beat the champion'

Brendan Allen criticized the South African's victory at UFC 297 and accused him of receiving the belt 'as a gift' from the organization

At the media day of the event that takes place this Saturday (06), the North American said that Dricus Du Plessis doesn't deserve to be holding the Ultimate belt and questioned the result of his fight with Sean Strickland.

“I think he received it (the belt). I don't think he took that away from the champion, in my opinion. You need to take the champion's belt away. I think the biggest example is Strickland vs. Adesanya, he (Strickland) went there and gave a fight. It was a five round fight and he delivered every time. There's no arguing the fact that he beat 'Izzy'. There’s no way you can say the same about Sean x Dricus,” said Allen.


No UFC 297, held last January, Du Plessis won the middleweight belt by beating the controversial Sean Strickland in a split decision by the judges that continues to resonate in the MMA community.

Sixth placed in the under-84kg division ranking, Allen arrives for the UFC Las Vegas 90 driven by six consecutive victories in the organization. In the main fight of this Saturday's card (06), 'All In' will face off against Chris Curtis, the last athlete who beat him in the Ultimate Octagon.
