With his eyes on the belt, Robert Whittaker regrets Israel Adesanya's new title fight

The former middleweight champion criticized the possible duel between the Nigerian and Du Plessis and acknowledged that a victory for the 'Stylebender' could disrupt his plans

Even in a duel against Khamzat Shimaev, Robert whittaker lamented the likely middleweight title fight that comes next. In his podcast, 'MMA Arcade', the Australian said he didn't like the idea of Israel adesanya fight for the title again, recognizing that this could hinder him in the near future, in case of victory in the UFC Saudi Arabia.

“I think Adesanya fighting for a title again hurts me, but I understand. Dricus asked. He's the champion, he gets what he wants. Adesanya is without an opponent. Mate, it looks like the fight that's going to happen, in my opinion. It's an interesting fight. I can see 'Izzy' taking the fight in five rounds,” lamented Whittaker.


Adesanya and Whittaker faced each other on two occasions for the middleweight belt, in 2019 and 2022 and in both cases, the Nigerian won by knockout and points, respectively.

In the first edition of UFC Saudi Arabia, which takes place on June 22nd, Whittaker will face off in the main fight with the star Khamzat Shimaev. The winner of the clash has already been confirmed by Dana White as the next challenger for the middleweight belt.


Although there is still no official confirmation from the organization, the first defense of the Dricus Du Plessis heads to UFC 305, against Israel adesanya. The card will take place in the city of Perth, Australia.
