After five fights in the middleweight division, including a short reign, Alex Poatán decided to leave aside the drastic weight cut and move to the 93kg category. The tough debut took place in July 2023 against the Polish Jan Blachowicz and the Brazilian emerged victorious in a controversial split decision from the judges.

Poatan's second commitment in the new belt was the light heavyweight title fight. Against the Czech Jiri Prochazka, the Brazilian survived a complicated first round and, with a controversial knockout, knocked down his rival and became a double UFC champion with just seven fights in the organization.

On April 13th, in the historic UFC 300, Poatan will put his title on the line for the first time against the North American Jamahal hill, former category champion and last tormentor of his mentor and friend Glover Teixeira. The card will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA).
