After knock out Jamahal Hill to defend the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg) in the first round of the main fight of the UFC 300 practically without suffering any damage, Alex Poatán He wasted no time and, still on top of the octagon, asked for a place in the UFC 301, on May 4th, in Rio de Janeiro, even if it is in a fight in the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg).

“I said I wanted to fight in Brazil. I know it takes a promotion to defend a belt, so I don't care. I want to fight at heavyweight”, asked the champion.

Unfortunately for Alex Poatán, the request does not seem to have been very well received by Dana White, president of the UFC. In a press conference held after the UFC 300, Dana commented on the subject and didn't seem very excited about the idea.

“When you think about moving up to heavyweight, you have (Jon) Jones, you have (Tom) Aspinall. The list is big in that division. The heavyweight division is wild. I don't know if it's the right move for him (Poatan). He looked great tonight in the division he's a part of. I think he should stay here for a while”, said the president.

Although he does not appear to have approved the idea, Dana White stated that he will discuss the matter with the UFC team in upcoming meetings, held on Tuesdays.

“These are the types of things we will talk about over the next Tuesdays. Let’s resolve it”, he concluded.
