Weidman expresses discomfort with Poatan's success and states that it is difficult to support the champion's trajectory

North American attacks the light heavyweight king's skills and ironically compares him to former UFC athlete

Former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg.) and known for great victories in the UFC, Chris Weidman controversial when demonstrating discomfort with the level reached by Alex Poatán. In the North American's view, the current king of light heavyweights (up to 93kg) cannot have his support and recognition, due to his supposed weakness in grappling and his history of opponents in the organization.

“It's difficult for me to fully support Pereira because I see a big opening with wrestling, and he's never wrestled. It's almost crazy, and it's such a huge efficiency based on what we've seen so far. It's almost like Ben Askren entering the UFC and managing to become a multiple champion with no hands. It’s as if a striker looked at Ben Askren and thought, “How the hell is this guy a world champion? He was able to do that in Bellator, he was able to do that – was it in ONE FC? Whatever it was. I mean, the guy had an unbelievable career in MMA and didn’t have any moves,” said Weidman in an interview with Michael Bisping.

As he continued speaking, Weidman controversially compared Poatan with Ben Askren.

“This guy is almost the opposite. I would almost say he’s as bad as Askren is at wrestling as Ben Askren is at striking,” she concluded.
