While Alex Poatán flirts with the possibility of venturing into heavyweight in the future, a former victim of the Brazilian is thinking about the opposite path. Former light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg), Jiri Prochazka surprised by raising the possibility of acting as a middleweight (up to 83,9 kg).

In a recent interview published on the 'Championship Rounds' page, on the social network 'X' (formerly Twitter), Prochazka expresses his interest in dropping weight and playing at middleweight, but only after regaining the light heavyweight belt.

“Instead of moving up to heavyweight, I thought I would try middleweight. From the way my metabolism feels and how my body works in preparation, I know that if I adjust my diet to feel great and clean, I could handle the middle split with a lighter diet. I would definitely focus on that after winning the light heavyweight title”, assured the Czech.

With a height similar to that of Alex Poatán, Jiri Prochazka he would go the opposite way to the Brazilian, who was middleweight champion before moving up to also win the light heavyweight belt. It's worth remembering that, before arriving in the UFC, the Czech had some fights as a heavyweight during his time at Rizin.

Jiri Prochazka became light heavyweight champion by dethroning Glover Teixeira in June 2022. The Czech, however, had to give up the belt months later due to a serious shoulder injury. On his return to the octagon, in November 2023, he ended up being knocked out by Alex Poatán in the fight for the category's vacant belt, but recovered with a knockout over Aleksandr Rakic No. UFC 300, on April 13th.
