Amid great controversy after his last victory, Chris Weidman shows interest in moving forward, without granting rematches to Bruno Blindado. Despite the Brazilian's desire to have a second confrontation, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) took advantage of the scenario to belittle his rival and state that he wants to face an athlete ranked in the category.

“I think I want a big name. I chose Bruno Blindado, not a big name. I think it's time to take a step forward and make a fun fight that people want to see and people know about me and him. Bruno Silva, they didn't really know his name, and I didn't have the right to choose my opponent. Not that I can really choose my opponents, but if it were up to me, I would have a bigger name, a fight that would mean a little more with a victory,” said Weidman in an interview with Michael Bisping.

As he continued speaking, Weidman expressed his desire to face Sean Strickland to follow.

“I would love that fight. I have a lot of respect for Strickland. I think it would be a fun fight. I think he would make me stop being such a nice guy. We could talk a little, have some fun. I would love that fight. I like his style. I like the fact that he pushes the pace. I like to push the pace. He likes to make guys tired, so I would like to test myself against a guy like him,” he concluded.

Despite the interest, Weidman needs to count on the outcome of Strickland's next fight, which he is scheduled to face Paulo borrachinha, on June 1, at UFC 302. Looking to return to the rankings, the North American does not respond to the challenges made by Blindado, who asks for a rematch after a controversial and disputed defeat.
