Again? Israel Adesanya reignites rivalry and regrets defeats to Alex Poatan again

The Nigerian tried to justify himself by saying that he was better in the fights in which he was defeated by the double UFC champion

Although he has already made it clear that he does not wish to face Alex Poatán again, Israel adesanya Don't forget the rivalry created with the Brazilian. In an interview with the ex-UFC podcast Demetrious Johnson, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) recalled the defeats he suffered against his tormentor and made a point of saying that he was better in the confrontation in some of them.

“First fight in China, I thought I won. Even Alex thought I won, until he raised his hand. Second fight, I'm winning and he catches me. Again, third fight in New York, I was winning, I shook him, but he caught me. The same referee who stopped the fight, Marc Goddard, left Jamahal hill almost kill Glover Teixeira. So, I was like, 'I was in the fight,'” lamented Adesanya.


Poatan and Adesanya have already faced each other four times, two in MMA and the same number in kickboxing. The Brazilian won the 2016 and 2017 clashes at Glory and the first at UFC, in November 2022, two of them by knockout. The Nigerian's first, and only, triumph took place in April 2023, at UFC 287.

Since September 2023, when he was defeated by Sean Strickland, Adesanya announced a break in his career and still has no official date for his return to MMA.
