Victim of a hard knockout in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 91, Matheus Nicolau spoke out after the defeat suffered last weekend. On his Instagram profile, the Brazilian vented about his frustration at not having achieved the expected result. The athlete, however, promised another comeback.

"I failed. I fell. What a bitter taste it has. I prepared a lot. I did what had to be done. I was feeling good in training throughout the camp (preparation period). I had an excellent week and an excellent weight cut. I have no excuses”, wrote Nicolau.

The athlete then analyzed the confrontation against Alex Perez. According to the Minas Gerais native, the plan was to have a five-round confrontation with the veteran.

“I was feeling good about the fight, following the strategy we created for a five-round fight. At the end of the first round, I was finding my opponent's timing, seeing his blows and starting to connect mine. In the second round I started more active, throwing more punches and feeling that the fight was going where we wanted, until I was caught and fell. For me this is nothing new. I've been here before, I've already turned around and I know this path. (…) Still, how it hurts,” he concluded.

No UFC Las Vegas 91, Matheus had the opportunity to get closer to his dream title fight in the flyweight category (under 56,7kg). Before the confrontation, the Brazilian occupied fifth place in the category ranking.
