Alexandre Pantoja criticizes former UFC champion's statements and asks for respect for the women's divisions

The flyweight champion said he did not agree with Sean Strickland's prejudiced statements and spoke out in favor of UFC women

protagonist of UFC 301, which takes place next Saturday (04), in Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre pantoja was yet another to speak out against the controversial statements of Sean Strickland. In an interview with 'CBS Sports', the flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) criticized the statements made by the former owner of the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg) and came out in defense of the athletes in the female divisions.

“Do you want me to lose my money, lose my job? That's so crazy... why do you say that? I was very angry when Sean Strickland told the flyweight women to shut up. Respect my work, I put food on my table with this,” said Pantoja.


Alexandre pantoja won the flyweight belt in UFC 290, in July 2023, by beating the Mexican Brandon Moreno in a tight split decision from the judges. In December of the same year, 'Cannibal' successfully defended his title by dominating the North American Brandon royval and emerge victorious in the unanimous decision.

Next (04), Pantoja will put his title on the line for the second time in UFC 301, which marks the return of Ultimate to Rio de Janeiro after 14 months. In the main fight of the show, which takes place at Farmasi Arena, the Brazilian will face the surprise Steve Erceg, tenth in the flyweight rankings.
