Ryan Garcia got complicated in boxing. Specialized journalist Dan Rafael announced that the fighter's countertest confirmed the positive result for the banned substance Ostarine, previously detected in the primary sample. The collection, conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), calls into question its victory over Devin Haney in April.

Garcia, who vehemently denies the intentional use of performance-enhancing substances (PEDs), reacted to the news with controversial posts on social media, which were promptly deleted. The content of the messages varied from inflammatory statements such as “I love steroids!” and an apparent disregard for his own career.

The boxer's legal team, however, presented an alternative narrative. An independent analysis of hair samples would have been negative, which, according to the defense, indicates accidental contamination and lack of prolonged use. The official position supports Garcia's commitment to the integrity of the sport and denies any intentional transgression.

However, the positive tests were collected on crucial dates: the day before and the day of the fight itself. Haney, defeated by majority decision after suffering three knockdowns, sought to change the result to a victory by disqualification.

What will happen to Ryan Garcia?

The future of Garcia, a social media idol with almost 12 million followers on Instagram and a record of 25 wins and one loss in his professional career, hangs in the balance. The New York State Athletic Commission will schedule a hearing to evaluate the case. A possible punishment could include suspension, a fine and, probably, the annulment of the victory against Haney.
