Lightweight champion Makhachev pointed to the greater rigidity of the new gloves as a risk for more cuts

In addition to the third defense of the Islam makhachev in light weight (up to 70,3 kg) against Dustin poirier: UFC 302, the attraction is the debut of new equipment for UFC fighters, with emphasis on the new gloves, whose main objective is to reduce the number of fingerprints on the eye and also fractures in the athletes' hands.

“The gloves are very stiff and, as I said, will cause more cuts. Previous gloves were softer, while these are stiffer. They don't allow you to open your hand completely to ensure that your fingers don't point forward, but, in general, they are basically the same thing”, analyzed the lightweight champion in an interview with the 'Sport24' channel, on YouTube.

Despite fearing increased cuts, Islam makhachev celebrated the opportunity to be the first athlete to wear the new golden gloves, exclusive to title fights.

“I'm going to frame them next to the belt like the UFC's first golden gloves. I think it means a lot,” he said.

Islam Makchev and Dustin poirier face each other in the main fight of the UFC 302, on June 1st, in Newark, New Jersey, in the United States.
