After beating Borrachinha, Sean Strickland admits refusing fights other than for the belt

Former champion suggests that he does not intend to perform and will wait for the opportunity to fight for the title

Executioner of Paulo borrachinha No. UFC 302, Sean Strickland admitted that he does not intend to return to the octagon, except for a title fight. In your profile on X, old Twitter, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.) revealed that he will wait for the opportunity to regain the category title. The North American was dethroned at the beginning of 2023, in a fight against Dricus Du Plessis.

“It’s time to sit back and wait for the title fight,” Strickland wrote.

Last weekend, the former middleweight champion stepped into the octagon for a challenge against Paulo borrachinha. Against the Brazilian, the North American had a strategic performance and dominated his rival for most of the five rounds played.

With the victory, Strickland defended his first position in the rankings. The Minas Gerais native, however, missed the opportunity to make a significant leap in the category.


Currently, there is speculation that the UFC is negotiating a fight between Dricus Du Plessis e Israel adesanya for the division title. If confirmed, Sean would need to wait for the outcome of the confrontation to find out if his request will be granted.

Middleweight champion since January 2023, the South African has not competed again since winning at the beginning of the season. Currently, the athlete is undefeated in seven appearances in the largest MMA organization in the world.
