Dana White doesn't mince words and calls for former UFC champion to retire

The president of Ultimate showed respect for Tony Ferguson but was sincere when asking him to hang up his gloves

Dana White is not the manager who hides when asked about controversial issues, mainly related to the possible retirement of his fighters. In an interview after the UFC 302, held on June 01st, the president of Ultimate showed respect for Tony Ferguson but he was direct in stating that the former interim lightweight champion should hang up his gloves.

“I would love to see Tony retire. You have to look at the guys he fought too. This influences everything and how he was until he lost. In the last fight, Tony looked like he should retire. Tony has been an absolute warrior in this sport. I don’t want to disrespect him by publicly talking about his retirement, but I would love to see him retire,” Dana said.

A UFC athlete since 2011, Ferguson has a record in the company of 15 wins and eight losses. 'El Cucuy' has already boasted a streak of 12 consecutive victories, which lasted from 2013 to 2019. In the organization, the former interim champion has already beaten names like Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza, Anthony Pettis e Donald Cerrone.

However, Tony is going through the worst moment of his career and is coming off seven consecutive defeats, a negative record in the organization's history, alongside the former champion B.J. Penn. At 40 years old, Ferguson now boasts a professional record of 25 triumphs and 10 setbacks.

On August 03rd, at UFC Abu Dhabi, Tony Ferguson will measure forces with the also veteran Michael chiesa, in his last fight of his current contract. Regardless of the result, Dana White has already warned that she will not renew her relationship with the former interim champion.
