Dana White's recent statement criticizing the UFC's pound-for-pound rankings and stating that Jon Jones should be at the top of the list, ahead of Islam makhachev, sparked a debate on the topic. Former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), Rafael dos Anjos was not left out of the discussion.

In a recent interview with the North American website 'Sherdog', Dos Anjos defined as 'nonsense' the fact that Makhachev is ahead of Jones in the official UFC rankings and used the longevity of the heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) as main argument.

“Islam (Makhachev) at the head of Jon Jones in the weight-for-weight ranking it makes no sense. Jones never lost a fight and faced the best of two different generations. When Makhachev was in diapers, Jones was already defending titles. This is the best example of why I don't care about these rankings”, said the former champion.

Rafael dos Anjos comes from two consecutive defeats in the UFC, the last one against Mateusz gamrot, in March of this year, in what was the former champion's last appearance in the lightweight division. In a definitive transition to welterweight, the Brazilian revealed that he is on vacation, but ready to answer a call from the organization.

“I'm having a month of vacation with my family in Brazil, but I'm in shape training at Nova União. Depending on the opponent, if they offer me fights at short notice in June or July, I'll be ready”, he concluded.
