After accepting a last-minute clash in the PFL, an event that takes place this Thursday (13), Thiago Marreta commented on his choice to face the dangerous Denis Golstov a week in advance. Experienced in the world of MMA, the Brazilian stated that he was up to date with his training and that he treats the week as 'just another' in his career.

“I like to fight. He was training, he was helping Augusto Sakai and other friends who had fights scheduled. He was training intensely, he wasn't completely still. I felt prepared to take this fight, there is no drastic weight cut, so I accepted. In fact, I didn't even need to cut weight. As I'm a heavyweight, my weight is lower. It’s been a normal week for me, I’m eating normally and training”, said Thiago in an interview with Combate.

Despite his willingness to take on big challenges, especially at short notice, the Brazilian was sincere when commenting on his possible retirement from the sport.

“It’s not far, it’s very close (retirement). We have to be honest with ourselves. MMA is a sport for young people. It's a very exhausting sport, you have to train in different modalities, and the body ends up not being able to handle this training load. I've been having a lot of injuries that have been hurting me a lot. These things make me stop. Age and injuries are not in our control. I think it’s very close”, he concluded.

At a delicate moment in his career, Thiago has won just one in his last eight professional fights. In his last appearance, the athlete was surpassed by Yoel romero in the unanimous decision of the judges. Willing to get back on the path to victory, the athlete faces Denis Goltsov this Thursday (13).
