Notified at the last minute that he would start facing an athlete who does not belong to the top 15 middleweights (up to 83,9kg), Robert whittaker avoided any kind of disparagement of Ikram Aliskerov. Previously cast to face Khamzat Shimaev, the Australian adopted a sincere stance and confessed to seeing a new opponent as a 'bigger challenge' than the undefeated Emirati in MMA.

“I definitely watched his tape, and honestly, I think he brings almost a greater threat level than Chimaev because his skill set is so well-rounded. He has very good hands and now he is a guy with the mentality that he has nothing to lose, just everything to gain, and that is very dangerous. I have to respect this fight and respect the threat he will bring, and that will make me very nervous”, confessed Whittaker in an interview with the channel 'Mainevent'.
