Close to 50 years old, Yoel Romero negotiates a fight in 'bare boxing'

Martial arts veteran considers drastic change and could sign contract with Bare Knuckle FC

As you approach 50, Yoel romero does not consider retiring from combat sports. Former UFC star, the Cuban opened negotiations to join Bare Knuckle FC (BKFC), 'bare knuckle boxing'. The information was released by 'Championship Rounds'.

"Yoel romero states that he is in negotiations with BKFC and could probably make his debut in two months,” they stated.

Famous for his physical strength, Romero began his career in professional MMA in 2009. The fighter gained notoriety in the sport by competing in the UFC, the company in which he debuted in 2013.

For the organization chaired by Dana White, the Cuban was highlighted, for years, in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg.). In the category, the athlete competed for the belt on two occasions, one of them for the interim title.


In the clashes for the throne, Yoel was unsuccessful. When competing for the provisional title, which could give him the opportunity to fight for unification later, the veteran was beaten by Robert whittakerIn 2017.

In his last attempt, Romero was frustrated by Israel adesanya. The challenge, marked by a lack of combativeness between the parties, took place in 2020.


After being defeated by the Nigerian, the Cuban left the UFC and signed a contract with Bellator. In the competition, Yoel came to compete for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg), but lost to Vadim nemkov.

'Endless' in sport, Romero last played in February 2024, when he faced Thiago Marreta no 'PFL x Bellator'. On that occasion, the Cuban, 46 years old at the time, won the judges' decision.
