Vitorioso e ainda invicto após UFC 303, Ian Machado Garry não hesita em traçar maiores planos para sua carreira nos meio-médios (até 77,1kg.). Atual sexto colocado no ranking, o irlandês afirmou estar disposto a viajar para Inglaterra e se tornar lutador reserva para disputa de cinturão entre Leon Edwards x Belal Muhammad. O evento ocorre em 20 de julho.
“Eu disse ao UFC há dois meses: ‘Quando eu vencer no UFC 303, quero ser o reserva (no UFC 304)’. Quero estar lá para o caso de algo acontecer. Veja esse card de lutas (UFC 303), veja quantas lutas não aconteceram. Dan Ige entrou em cena. Você sabe o que quero dizer? Tudo pode acontecer, e eu quero estar lá só para garantir”, declarou Garry em entrevista a TNT Sports.

Despite being looking for an unprecedented opportunity in his journey through Ultimate, Garry avoided provoking the respective athletes who will fight for the belt at UFC 304.
“Whether it’s Leon, it’s Belal, whoever it is. I respect both of their skill sets and talent. I know they are very good. But I know I can face any man on the planet and have my hand raised. So for me, I will be there (in Manchester). I offered myself to the UFC, Hunter (Campbell) and Dana (White) to be the guy to step in and make sure there will be a welterweight world title fight if someone pulls out. So for me, that’s the next step,” he concluded.

Contratado em 2021 pela empresa, Ian vive grande fase aonde acumula oito triunfos consecutivos. Além de expressar desejo pelo cinturão, o irlandês não descartou enfrentar Shavkat Rakhmonov em sua próxima aparição no octógono.
